When
the Canadians meet Natural, epidemic, and other forms of disasters, the Red
Cross is there within a short time to help. You may know who they are, but do
you know what they do?
There
is a cross in the logo, but it is not a religious body. It is a community help
body at the time of disaster. Its Strength is the volunteers and donors.
Canadian Red Cross operates on 300+ BRANCHES with around 20,000 volunteers from
coast to coast.
Canadians
in need use their programs and services every year.
Red
Cross is ready to act when disasters strike; they respond quickly to
emergencies big and small. In a disaster, such as earthquakes, forest fires and
floods, the first 72 hours are the most critical. During this short period, the
Red Cross provides essentials like food, shelter and clothing with 6000+
disaster volunteers ready to serve anywhere, anytime. After the disasters
strike, people lose their families, and the Red Cross helps them reconnect.
Currently,
the Canadian Red Cross grants funds to organizations that help vulnerable people
during the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of this program, OSTBA, a Senior's NPO in
Ontario, was given the grant to train and educate the seniors on COVID-19 and
encourage best hygiene practices within the community to prevent coronavirus
spread. OSTBA uses social media such as Facebook, Zoom meetings, radio programs
and magazines to achieve this.
